Game 58: Hawks @ Nuggets

(Denver-CO) I've got to be honest with you, Nuggets Nation. This game tonight against the Hawks feels like a playoff game. Here we are with 57 regular season games in the books and the Nuggets out to arguably their best season in franchise history, but yet I'm worried. Denver is sitting on the fence and depending on the outcome of this game and Friday's against the Lakers could very well find themselves in second place in the Northwest Division after being first for the majority of the season up to this point.

Throw out all the numbers. Disregard all the injuries. If the Nuggets lose tonight, it will be their first four-game skid since two seasons ago and could open the door for more demons.

As talkb3 pointed out in the forum, "(Losses) are a test of fortitude. I love the saying...Sports don't build character, they reveal it. The Nuggets character is about to be revealed in the coming weeks."

And he's dead right!

This team is going to show us just what kind of heart they have in the next six games. Not only do we have the Hawks tonight and the Lakers on Friday, but Denver will then face Detroit in Motown before squaring off in the center of the ring with the Trailblazers and Jazz of whom are both nipping on the heels of the the Nuggets in the Northwest Division.

If the Nuggets don't win tonight, the question becomes when will they? It's of my opinion that the only should-win game in this next stretch is against the Pacers and that win is by no means a gimme. Denver will have to travel to Indiana for that contest and the Nuggets are a mediocre 17-13 so far this season on the road.

So, with all that said, does tonight's game mean more than just a notch in either the win or loss column?

You're damn right!

This game could either mentally bolster the Nuggets into thinking they can beat the Lakers on Friday or leave them searching for answers and smelling like bananas as the 800lbs gorilla comes to town. Win tonight and the Nuggets may very well win on Friday. It's not so far fetched to think the Nuggets could easily carry the momentum from a nice home win against a playoff bound team from the Eastern Conference and parlay that into a win against the Lakers. But if they lose tonight, it could set off a domino effect, with all the excuses just ready to be used, that could have tremendous playoff implications.

Go Nuggets!

Nene is out for the week so that is going to hurt us. Without Nene, someone like Horford might own under the net preventing any layups from Dante and J.R. On the other hand, if Denver can keep Joe Johnson tamed then ATL shouldn't be able to win no matter what happens.
