(Denver-CO) Kenyon Martin has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for putting Dirk on his derriere in the first quarter of game one of the Western Conference Semifinals. The foul had been originally warranted just a technical during the game, but has since been upgraded by the league to a flagrant 1. The flagrant foul is Martin's first of the postseason and, after the upgrade from a technical to a flagrant foul penalty 1, puts one point in Martin's playoff "account." Players who exceed three points receive an automatic suspension for the next game after the three-point barrier is surpassed.
My reaction? So what!
It's no suprise to me that Martin was fined and it doesn't matter that the league hit him with such a hefty price tag. Hell, in my opinion, the team should just pass around a hat, fill it up with c-stacks, and Kenyon should put Nowitzki on his rump once a game, every game. The fact still remains that Dirk goes into a shell when someone takes his lunch money. Furthermore, the Mavericks are not capable of beating the Nuggets with a passive Dirk Nowitzki and as long as Martin keeps the physical play up, and it doesn't get him suspended, it will just be tears on Mark Cuban's pillow in the morning.
Go Nuggets!
