(Denver-CO) The Denver Nuggets finally saw Ty Lawson play the kind of game they hoped he could play when trading for him on draft night. In Denver's second win of the Las Vegas Summer League, Lawson showcased his talents to the Nuggets Nation with a 26-point, five assist, and five rebound performance. Sonny Weems also looked sharp with 24 points, four assists, and four rebounds as the Nuggets polished off Portland, 111-93, setting a Summer League record for most points scored by a team in a single game. The Nuggets are now 2-1 in Las Vegas.
Video Highlights
The Nuggets were able to jump all over the Blazers defensively in the first quarter and held Portland to just 16 points. Denver didn't relinquished the lead in the second half and kept things comfortable in the fourth quarter by never leading by less than seven points.
Box Score
What you've got to love about the Las Vegas Summer League, and especially when understanding the Nuggets' situation, is pretty much everyone on this team besides Ty Lawson and Sonny Weems will not be on the regular season roster. With that being said, this collection of very talented basketball players are still getting after it in hopes that some other franchise's scouts may see something that their club can use. The results have been very entertaining basketball and despite there not being much on the line for the franchises involved in terms of wins and losses. The players are noticeably playing with aggression and a purpose - and many for a job.
The Nuggets take on the D-League Select Team tonight and conclude the Las Vegas action tomorrow night against the New Orleans Hornets.
Go Nuggets!
